• Air: The nearest airport to the Betla National Park is Ranchi, 180 km away. The airport has flights connecting to major Indian cities like Kolkata, Patna, Mumbai and New Delhi. Taxis and cabs are available from here to go to the national park.
• Rail: Daltonganj which is also the nearest town to this national park is the nearest railway station. Ranchi and Gaya are the other main railway stations which are close to Betla.
• Road: By road, the national park can be reached from places including Daltonganj via Khudia morh (6km), Ranchi (140 kms), Hazaribagh (190 kms), Netarhat (211 kms), Patna (384 kms) and Kolkata (575 kms).

Betla National Park is one of the first national parks in India which was formed during the British period. It was started with the aim to protect tigers. Palamau Tiger Reserve is a part of Betla National Park which is one of the nine original tiger reserves in India. It is the only national park in Jharkhand. Rich diversity of flora and wildlife can be found in Betla National Park. Other than watching tigers, tourists can enjoy elephant ride. Koel river along with its tributaries, the Auranga and Amanat flows through Betla National Park. Burha is another river flowing through the national park and both these rivers flows into River Sone. In the wester bank of Koel lies a palace constructed by the King of Palamau, Gopal Rai in 18th Century. This area is known as Shahpur where temple and ruined buildings are worth enough to see. When to plan: Though Betla National Park remains open throughout the year, May to June is the ideal time to explore the dense forest. The national park somehow does not remain that thick during these months. After the monsoons, tourists can again plan their trip from November-March. Animals like Gaur and Chital are frequently visible during this time of the year. How to Reach: Travellers have to reach the national park from Betla Village. This village is 65 km north of Latehar, 170 km north-west of Ranchi and 65 km south of Daltonganj. If one is traversing through air, Ranchi airport is the closest situated at a distance of 189 km. History
The park  was a home to the first tiger census in the year 1932. It is a part of the project tigernow. It is considered to be the undisputed natural gem of the Jharkhand state. The park is located at a distance of 140 kilometers towards the west of Ranchi. It is one of the popular places in India where one can spot the wild elephants. Although the park is a tiger reserve but the tigers are spotted very rarely here. The Palamau sanctuary is covering an area around 1026 square kilometer but the Betla National Park includes a core area of 232 square kilometers. It the year 1989 this area was declared to be the Betla National Park. The terrain of the park is constituted by the western area of the Chhotanagpur Plateau. There are nine tiger reserves in India and betla National park is the one which was first established.
Initially the park comprises Palamau tiger reserve which was spread in a total area of 1,026 km². Betla National park was known as Palamu Sanctuary previously. In the year 1989 additional 226 km² area was included in the park and around 63 km² area of the Mahuadar wolf sanctuary was also added to it. The forest department of india is looking after the administration of the park.
Best Time To Visit
The park is open throughout the year. October to April is the best time to visit the park. The best time to spot the tigers is in the month of May as the cover of the forests is reduced because of the heat and animals move out to look after the water holes. Those who can bear the scorching sun can visit the place in the month of May. The sightings of the wildlife are maximum in the months of May and June. The climate is pleasant from the month of November to March.
