1974 में स्थापित भारत के सबसे पुराने टाईगर रिजर्व में से एक बेतला राष्ट्रीय पार्क है जिसे पूर्व में पलामू टाईगर रिजर्व के नाम से जाना जाता था। यहां बड़ी संख्या में बाघ, तेंदुआ, जंगली भालू, बंदर, सांभर, नीलगाय, मोर और चीतल आदि जानवर पाए जाते हैं। इस वन में 970 प्रजाति के पौधे, 174 प्रजातियों के पक्षी, 39 स्तनधारी, 180 प्रजाति के औषधीय पौधे पाए जाते हैं। 
आर्कषण केंद्र बेतला अभयारण्य शुरू से ही पर्यटकों के बीच आर्कषण का केंद्र रहा है। यहां के गर्म पानी के झरने में स्नान करने का अपना अलग ही मजा है। इस अभयारण्य के अंदर 16वीं शताब्दी का एक किला भी बना हुआ है, जो यहां का ऐतिहासिक धरोहर समझा जाता है। यहां से कोयल नदी और बरहा नदी गुजरती है जो आगे जाकर सोन नदी में मिल जाती है। चारों तरफ से घने जंगलों से घिरे बेतला पार्क में पांच टावर भी बने हुए है, जहां से आसानी से इस अभयारण्य का अवलोकन किया जा सकता है।

कब जाएंपर्यटक आमतौर पर फरवरी से मार्च महीने के बीच यहां घूमने आते है। इस दौरान मौसम बड़ा ही सुहाना होता है।
कैसे पहुंचेवायु मार्ग-रांची का बिरसा मुंडा हवाई अड्डा बेतला से 161 किलोमीटर की दूरी पर स्थित है।
रेल मार्ग-बेतला से 25 किलोमीटर की दूरी पर डाल्टेनगंज रेलवे स्टेशन है।
सड़क मार्ग-बेतला से 25 किलोमीटर की दूरी पर डाल्टेनगंज स्थित है।

Betla National Park
Betla National Park is a beautiful place, located in the Chota Nagpur Plateau of the Latehar District of the state of Jharkhand. ‘Betla’ is an acronym of the following words- Bison, Elephant, Tiger, Leopard, and Axis-axis.
The area in Palamu District in Jharkhand was set aside as a protected area in 1947 under the Indian Forests Act. In the year of 1973, it was declared a wildlife sanctuary. The area was set up as the Palamau Tiger Reserve in the year of 1974. Total area of the reserve is about 1014 Km2.
It was declared as a National Park in the year of 1986. Total area of the park is about 226.33 Km2. Betla National Park is considered among the best national parks in India, and became one of the earliest 9 tiger reserves in India under ‘Project Tiger’ in 1974.

History
Palamau has the distinction of being the forest where the world’s first tiger census was enumerated in 1932.
This area was set aside as a protected area in 1947 under the Indian Forests Act. In the year of 1973, it was declared a wildlife sanctuary.
The area was set up as the Palamau Tiger Reserve in the year of 1974. Total area of the reserve is about 1014 Km2. Before the Palamau was declared a Tiger Reserve, poaching and overgrazing was common.
The present area of the reserve got duly constituted either as Protected Forest or Reserved Forest under the Indian Forest Act, 1927 way back in 1947. Betla was one of the first national parks in India to become a tiger reserve under Project Tiger. The park is under administration of the forest departments.
It was declared as a National Park in the year of 1986. Total area of the park is about 226.33 Km2.

The villagers within Palamau Tiger Reserve are predominantly tribal. They belong to ethnic groups like Munda, Kherwar, Chero, Kisan and Birjia. These tribals traditionally led a nomadic life and in harmony with the wildlife and natural resources of Palamau.
Geography
Betla is most important tourist place of Jharkhand having luxuriant Sal and miscellaneous trees and bamboo forests. The forest starts from Kechki and extended up to Neterhat.
Sal dominates the dry and deciduous region of the dry deciduous forests towards the southern side of the forests whereas pure patches of Bel Aegle marmelos are found in the northern part of the reserve.
The park has an undulating terrain is marked with important hills like the Murhu, Netarhat, Huluk and Gulgul, which is the highest. The majestic sal, covers the valleys and hills of this reserve.
Several waterfalls such as the Mirchaia Water Fall and the Lodh Water Fall and the hot water spring like the Tataha Pani mark the luxuriant landscape.

There are two historical forts, one of them belonging to the 16th century deep inside the forest. The main sentinel of the old fort is visible high up on the hill with defences in three directions and three main gates.

The park provides several opportunities to observe a variety of wildlife from close range. There are elephant rides and jeeps available with guides for venturing inside the park. Watch towers and ground hides have been constructed to view the wild life.The park is open throughout the year. Wildlife sightings are highest in the hot season (May to June), when foliage is not as thick. The most comfortable time to visit in terms of climate is between November and March.Access

Betla village (at 23.8878°N 84.190139°E) is the only entry point to the park. The village is situated 25 road-km south of Daltonganj, 65 road-km northwest of Latehar and 170 road-km northwest of Ranchi.By air: The nearest airport, Birsa Munda Airport in Ranchi, is connected by daily flights to all major Indian cities. Patna airport is around 250 road-km from Betla. Most resorts have pick-up facilities. Jharkhand Tourism also arranges pick-ups on advance notice.By rail: The nearest railway station to Betla is at Barwadih Junction; it is 15 km by taxi or bus. The accommodation facilities in the tourist complex include a three star hotel, tourist lodges with canteen, log huts and tree houses inside the forest with fully furnished suites. The tree house overlooks a watering hole a few yards away where the animals gather in the summers to quench their thirst. There is grassland near tree house and canteen, where herds of Spotted Deer come to graze. STD/ISD, Postal and Internet facilities are available in the reserve area. For local tourists, Core Area Division runs a tourist bus on Saturday and Sunday which covers Palamu QuilaBetla ParkKechki Confluence and return to Daltonganj.Jharkhand Tourism Development Corporation operates the Van Vihar for accommodation. A stay outside the park is possible at Betla, Garu, Maromar and Baresanr.
